fashion on a dime

today i am starting something here i've wanted to do for awhile. something that i am passionate about. i held back for awhile because i thought maybe it would seem silly or petty. but then i remembered that this is my blog and that means i get to do what i want. that sounds bratty, but in all seriousness i feel led to start this.

i hope that i have shown you a true representation of myself.  i am goofy and a bit on the sarcastic side.  i love being a mom and wife.  i love jesus with all my heart. and i am passionate about being frugal, yet fashionable. so starting today, i am beginning a new series/commitment here on de' blog.

fashion on a dime is two-fold.
1. every week, i will feature one internet found outfit that i gleaned inspiration. i will then show you my version of the outfit using the clothing from my closet or thrift store/clearance rack.
2. i am also committing to buying only thrifted or ridiculously cheap clearance apparel for one whole year.
yup you heard right.
there are two exceptions - socks & underwears - i will not wear undies from another lady. not gonna do it.
but everything else from head to toe will be purchased from a thrift store, clearance rack, or yard sale.  with the occasional borrowed item - i have 3 sisters. score.

fashion on a dime will take place on wednesdays.  if any of you thrifty bloggers are interested, i may eventually make this a linky party, you tell me. you would not have to commit to my thrifted clothing only rule. just show others your frugal fashion. we shall see...

and now, your first official 'fashion on a dime' post.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
one of my favorite fashion trends right now is the camel and black/gray color combo.

maybe it's the fact that this was so faux pas when i was young - because i now find it so chic.

i used this as my inspiration for my outfit that i wore to my nephew's birthday party last weekend.

 my outfit:
boots :: tommy hilfiger - clearance at tj maxx 5 years ago
jeggings :: target - borrowed from my sister
belt :: over 10 years old
black tank - walmart clearance
sweater - salvation army
necklace - love is rising

black, gray, & camel. i felt chic. yes. i. did.
and frugal.

so tell me, what do you think? i truly hope that this becomes an encouragement to you all.  fashion can be so fun, yet so daunting when one looks at the price tag usually associated. and though i won't be walking down a runway in milan anytime soon, i am here to tell you that you can look and feel just as good for less.

work it. on a dime.

please forgive the cell phone pics - my camera died at the party. will do better next week.

  1. I love this idea! It's so helpful to me to see someone recreate cute outfits in real life and to do it all from already owned/thrifted/clearance items.
And I don't think it's silly or petty. Prov 31:21-22 "...all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple."

  7. yea! i have been wanting to do frugal fashion stuff FOREever, but alas it is always the getting dressed , making myself look decent and then taking the photo that holds me back. i too have the same rule for myself...only thrift or super, super cheap clearance. and no $15 on clearance is not super cheap...lol you look adorable!
